How One Hour a Day Can Super Charge Your Summer...


As summer approaches many of us have a little (but loud) voice in the back of our minds telling us to "get ready for summer" I'm sure this means different things for everyone but for most it includes the universal "loose weight & have enough energy to enjoy this jam packed season"... There are already millions of theories and "advice" being pushed onto us from all angles of the media world so I'm not going to write an essay on all the weird and wonderful time consuming way's you need to change ~
Instead, I'm just going to share a little inspiration from my side of the fence about the simple things we are doing in our home to kick start our summer season ~ Because it's working bloody wonders !!

We are a trio of mum dad and the four year old boss of the house. We have a mix of preschool and home day's, Dad works full time, mum works part time, we have swimming lessons, Martial art's classes, a veggie garden to manage, a house we clean ourselves, pets to feed, 7 home cooked dinners, lunches, breakie's & snacks to make each week (because i am a little mad and somewhere along the lines decided pre-made supermarket food and take-out was unhealthy.... Maybe for the body but not always for time management or sanity) So yes, we are just as chin deep in the business of day to day life as the next person and know how challenging it is to work "looking after me" into any day of the week.

But here's what we've done for the last month 6 mornings a week...
we decided to cut back on the evening t.v to make space for more constructive use of our time or to relax with a good read instead, which is far more replenishing than the over stimulation you get from tv.
We go to bed 1 hr earlier - 9:30 - 10pm instead of the previous 10:30 or so.
we get up 1 hr earlier - now at 5am
we do 1 hour of power yoga together while our son is still asleep.
we gulp down a super green smoothie that takes 5 min to make and 5 min to drink and nourishes the body like no other breakie you've ever had.
Recipe: 
2 banana's
1 cup pineapple
1.5 cup coconut milk
2 tsp spirulina
2tsp wheat grass
2 Tblsp chia seeds
1 tsp pro biotic powder
5 ice cubes
Blend & Gulp ;)


This may sound like a lot of changes, but really it's not. if you break it down, essentially its about getting to bed and rising one hour earlier than usual to make space for the changes YOU wish to implement!!

One hour & one smoothie has made an enormous change in our lives. The energy we now have supports us through the entire day. The nourishment we gain feeds our body the right amount of nutrition that cravings for sweet foods are almost non existent.  As a couple we even have time to have a decent conversation ALONE when we are energized and happy verses tired and grumpy.
We bring more positivity, health and vitality to our family relationships, our work and most importantly to ourselves.

One hour has improved our sleep, allowed for exercise, enhanced fitness & muscle tone, encouraged authentic connection in our relationship, elevated our energy levels, boosted nutrition & increased our overall happiness & well-being.

Spring Equinox ~ A time of Fertility & Fruitfulness...




The Spring Equinox is upon us ~ A time to celebrate the blossoming of new energies coming into our lives after the hibernation of Winter & to honor the goddess Ostara who represents Fertility & Fruitfulness...

Aching Hips ~ What Are They Trying to Tell You?

When We Heal The Inner ~ The Outer Follows Sync!

In my home Healing Practice, It is common for me to treat tight aching hips. Aside from any obvious strains or injuries there is often an underlying emotional / mental issue that needs addressing for true healing to occur & also to prevent future pain.

So, What Are Those Hips Trying to Tell You??

The most renowned emotional body therapists "Louise L Hay" says hip problems are linked to a fear of moving forward in big decisions or  perhaps there's a feeling within that there's nothing to move forward to.
If this does not resonate, other issues relating to Aching Hips are: Family upsets;  A feeling that your carrying someone on your hip or taking too much responsibility for someone or something which needs to be more balanced and fair. Experiencing tension, stress & frustration for taking on more than you can or should. Feeling used or manipulated & under appreciated.

Healing Options...

So now you have some awareness of the psychosomatic association to aching hips what are you meant to do with it? Well, if the emotional / mental contributors are true for you then allow your self to truly recognize how this stress is affecting your body and begin to play with some ideas of how you can make even small changes to slowly resolve the issue's. They didn't appear overnight (most likely) so the adjustment process may also take a little time before you feel fully able to implement and feel comfortable with change.
Awareness is a powerful motivating force within itself ~ Allow it to germinate.

In Eastern Healing ~ The Hips are governed by our "Base Chakra"  which has a lot to do with how grounded & earthed we are in our lives. It relates to our physical identity & self preservation. If you are having strife in your family, friendships or employment, chances are your Base Chakra may be week.

Chai Spice Green Tea for Health, Vitality & A Touch of Magic

As part of my "Spring Clean Resolution's" I have traded in my dreaded caffeine addiction for a nourishing pot of herbal healing. After two entire days of feeling like I was on deaths door with a monster migraine, lethargy, brain fog & general body ache's, I woke this morning out the other side. Gratitude Journal Begins Again


I have decided to restart my gratitude journalying at the end of each day. This is a practice i used to be quite disciplined at but as the days go along & children, work, relationships, health & home need to be given more attention, some of the simple pleasures get dropped off somewhere along the road of life....
As many on the gratitude path might relate to -  my journey started when life was feeling a little more difficult than i was comfortable with - aka - basically I wasn't getting what I wanted and was having a nice little 3 year old internal tantrum about it. I wanted a quick fix and The "Attractor Factor" aspect of gratitude seemed like a sweet & easy pill to swallow at the time...

You know what i discovered - It actually worked!

Maybe not in the sense of a sudden mansion on top of a coastal headland,  a perfectly behaved child or a 100% cooperative partner following my every whim. But in a much bigger, more fulfilling way, I became grateful and appreciative for the positive's that already existed in my life. My focus shifted from what was not working to what was ~ suddenly life seemed better than it had for a long time ~ Suddenly i felt happy & light again :)

I know, i know, you've read this "gratitude smatitude" theory every second week in your latest magazine, face book page with those incessant image quote's, favorite book store & blogs etc etc....
But have you made time to actually do it on a regular & consistant basis??

Go on..... Just Do It.... I am too


what have you got to loose except 5 minutes and a negative mindset ~ You may even like to stretch out that 5 minutes to 15 with a hot cupa or glass of wine in a quiet cozey corner or garden hideaway. Call it self therapy & Tell your family it'll help you complain less, smile more & love better... They might even give you half an hour :)
 This time I am adding a twist ~ Now that my son in 4 and able to clearly understand and articulate  what makes him happy in a day, I am instigating a new family tradition...

There are several tools that I'm going to suggest you use as you begin your inner exploration. Simplicity, order, harmony, beauty, and joy--all the other principles that can transform your life will not blossom and flourish without gratitude. It you want to travel this journey with me, the gratitude journal is not an option.
Why? Because you simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you have set in motion an ancient spiritual law; the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.
I have told you that the Simple Abundance path is a transformative process. We're going to work on one principle for one month (online) at a time, trying to weave that principle into the fabric of our daily life. 

Let's begin today with gratitude. Select the prettiest, most inviting blank book you can find for your gratitude journal. Make a pleasant outing for its selection. "Many people today are struggling to make do with less. What’s the secret to finding happiness when you’re coping with loss? If we observe people who know how to be happy, we find that they make a point of being grateful for whatever they have. And it’s not related to how much material wealth you may or may not possess. A growing body of research has demonstrated that grateful people are happier than their less-grateful counterparts, regardless of their income level.

THE DETAILS: Gratitude has also been found to be a powerful antidote to depression. Martin Seligman, PhD, a pioneer in the positive psychology movement, and colleagues at University of Pennsylvania delivered gratitude instructions to 50 severely depressed visitors to a self-help website. They recommended that individuals take time each day to write down three things that went well that day, and why they thought so. Fifteen days later, 94 percent of the 50 individuals reported feeling significantly less depressed. Their scores on a widely used depression inventory dropped by 50 percent—equivalent to improvement seen with medication treatment or psychotherapy, although the latter interventions generally take longer to work. Individuals in a placebo-controlled group who wrote down three childhood memories each day did not experience an improvement in their depressive symptoms. More important, the effects for the group practicing gratitude lasted for a full 6 months. The researchers repeated the same study several months later with a different group of depressed Web users and obtained substantially the same results. Seligman’s group also found that writing in a gratitude journal had a mood-boosting effect for depressed patients in a 12-week therapy group, as well as for patients in individual therapy.

WHAT IT MEANS: Cultivating gratitude is a powerful way to overcome adversity and depression. By choosing to focus on your blessings, rather than ruminating on your disappointments and deficits, you nourish positive feelings about yourself, your life, and others. As an ongoing attitude, gratitude will help you cultivate happiness throughout your life. It is no accident that the individuals in Seligman’s study maintained their gains long after they completed the online intervention. Gratitude is habit-forming. The number of things you can be grateful for is infinite. As a happiness resource, gratitude is free and inexhaustible.

There are many ways you can weave gratitude into the fabric of your life:

• Keep a gratitude journal. At the end of each day, write down three things you experienced that you feel grateful for. They could be as varied as the buds appearing on the trees in your yard and appreciation for the kindness extended to you by a stranger. As you chronicle the things you feel grateful for, make a point of not repeating any of the prior entries in your journal.
• Write and deliver a gratitude letter to someone in your life whom you have not properly thanked for what they have given to you. You can deliver the letter in person or read it over the telephone. It’s a powerful experience, for you as well as for the person you’re thanking.
• Say grace before each meal to express your thanks for the food you are about to eat.
Use whatever language you’re comfortable with, whether religious, spiritual, or just an informal expression of gratitude for the meal.
• Make a point of thanking anyone who serves you in any way—the cashier at the checkout counter, your child for clearing the dinner table, the tech-support person who helped you fix your computer.
• Take gratitude breaks during the course of each day to simply appreciate the myriad blessings, large and small, that are present in your life."

Healing Touch ~ The New Treatment Option Available at ""Rachael's Place of Practice" ~ Currently Used in Mainstream American Hospitals



A few weeks ago I gained my first level certification in a new healing modality called "Healing Touch". 
I have long been excited about gaining this & incorporating it into my massage practice, as it is currently the only "Energy Based" therapy that is being employed in over 30 mainstream American Hospitals.
This is due to intensive research with staggering results: Hospitals such as Oregon, Miami & Greenwich reported that their quarterly pharmaceutical bill's dramatically decreased due to their patients requiring less pain medication. What is Healing Touch?

What is a typical Healing Touch session like?
  A first session is an hour and 15 minutes, as it includes an intake interview and initial assessment. The client is asked the common questions (age, medical history, medications, etc.) and some not so common questions (What do you do to relieve stress? What do you do to relax? Do you meditate? What are your religious or spiritual beliefs / practices? What do you hope to get out of the session? What if any specific emotional or physical stresses are you currently experiencing, How are you currently coping with life / work / family in general etc.) A treatment is usually given on a massage table or in a chair, (though Healing Touch can be adapted to any setting (hospital bed, wheel chair, accident scene, etc.) The client is fully clothed for the treatment unless in conjunction with a therapeutic massage.
The practitioner begins by assessing the energy field, feeling for variances in temperature, vibration, etc. Any one of a number of energy balancing techniques may be used, depending on the individual situation.
   
What is the cost of a Healing Touch Session? 
The first session is $65 as it involves intake and takes approximately 1 hr 15 minutes.
Every session thereafter is $60 and lasts for approximately 60 minutes.

Solar Eclipse in New Moon ~ Set Your Communication Intensions

Recently I have committed to a new morning routine ~ One that involves waking before sunrise (and the 4 year old), throwing on a pair of runners and heading for my stunning local head land walk. There i find the company of wild wallabies & chirpy birds, majestic view's of the ocean & misty mountain peaks,  a proud lighthouse on a lone island out at sea and of course the divine sunrise splashing the sky with hues of pink & burnt orange light...

This morning ritual has involved some sacrifice on my part ~ for example: That one last glass of red wine, an hour or two of extra child free time in the evening and sometimes even a clean kitchen in the morning! But the rewards have all been well worth it!

Yesterday morning i was blessed enough to make it out there during this very special (and slightly intense) astrological moment of the rare Solar Eclipse in the New Moon phase of Gemini!
This spells major focus on our communication styles and what types of communications come into our lives & how we deal with them ~ Did I make my intentions for communicating my truth with clarity & integrity during this time? Did I ask for divine guidance to help me do this?
You bet i did ~ Here's Why....

As most of us know,Gemini rules communication,and with Venus retrograde also in the sign of the twins,the current energies are encouraging us to speak from the heart-not only opening up the line for honest communication with others,but also honest communication with ourselves. As I mentioned earlier in the week,the retrograde phase of Venus,is helping to break down the barriers that stop us from receiving love(self or other),and also shows us where superficial interactions are at play in our life. Remember that Venus rules Taurus and Libra,so it can become a pattern to live a double life of maintaining the status quo and upholding a particular image,while feeling empty and unfulfilled because your needs aren't being met. If you only show the parts of yourself that you deem acceptable you will never feel whole.
The eclipse is a time of new beginnings, and if you honestly don't have a clue as to what areas of your life are being affected,you will over the coming weeks. In ancient Astrology eclipses were feared as times of massive upheaval and impending doom, and filled people with a sense of dread. While eclipse energy does usher in change,and can be dramatic-depending on your situation,it does give us the opportunity to get the energy moving where there has been stagnation. They are really not to be feared as they will bring change in where change is needed...and if you are honest with yourself,you will know that this has been building up for quite some time. There can be no putting of the inevitable,the writing is on the wall. It is up to us to make decisions around situations where we are unhappy,stagnating,wounded,unfulfilled and passionless.
You do not have to give everything up- I am only talking about areas of your life that have been madly waving their hand at you for your attention-you know deep down where these are. Since Gemini is the sign of thinking and talking,start the ball rolling by making a list of all of those things that are bothering you or that you would like to see come to fruition. Externalising something-even just onto paper-can bring more clarity around the situation.
The eclipse will only exacerbate the already potent effects of the Venus retrograde, and will help you reveal parts of yourself that you normally wouldn't, and speak your truth. New information will come to your attention either through a massive inner realisation,or outside of you-either way the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. Chiron and Mars(although wide)are connected with the eclipse energy and will offer us the opportunity to tap into old wounds and make a conscious effort to deal with them. We are all being called into question in regards to our beliefs and patterning, and the more we can see what's real and what isn't,the more we can release what no longer works for us and come into alignment with ourselves. The more we can make a commitment to healing ourselves,the more this will be felt on an evolutionary level. Neptune also forms an aspect to the new moon/eclipse,and helps us cut through illusions and lies. You can keep yourself in a delusional way of being and living,but at some point you will be challenged to see the truth of all situations. As there may be conflict between the intuition(Neptune),and the mind(Gemini),it's important to utilise both before making any major decisions.
The North Node in Saggy asks you what your dreams are,and how it is that you might start walking a path that is right for you,while Jupiter's foray into Gemini on June 13th lets us know that there are many new doorways of opportunity opening up for us.When Jupiter does move into Gemini,he will trigger the degree of tomorrows eclipse,so even if you don't experience anything now,you will come June. Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion, and will definitely shine a light on all areas of your life that are crying out for change. Jupiter brings optimism and positivity, and wants to make sure that all loose ends are tied up before so that we can make the most of his opportunistic energy. You will find that during this time,you will have more than one option open to you in regards to most things. This New Moon/Eclipse will helps us improve our communication skills,and also help us to understand the differing opinions of others. You will find that your social life increases, as will your mental interactions with others. Short trips and the start of study are real possibilities here, as is anything to do with neighbours and siblings. Mental clarity can be yours,but just mkae sure that not over analysing situations-always balance the intellect with your gut instinct. What are your hopes,what are your dreams. Write them down and speak them to the universe. The eclipse gives the new moon a turbo like energy,so start planting those seeds now! Be true to yourself, and honour all parts of you. While the twin energy can be many different things to many different people,it's the acknowledgement of all of those aspects of self that will return you to wholeness and merge the sometimes segregated energy of Gemini.
